Greetings Families,
I can’t believe it is time for school to start! We are so excited to welcome your child to our new school year. Our teachers and staff are working hard to design many learning experiences to support the academic, social, and emotional development for each of our Grizzlies!
All students can eat breakfast and lunch for FREE this year!
If your child is going to eat a lunch from home, please remember to limit items like candy, cookies, and chips as those are often the only things a child will eat during lunch. We want your child to have things like high protein options, fruits, and veggies to fuel their brains for the hard work they do each day.
Grijalva does not allow hot chips of any kind, for example Hot Cheetos, Takis, Chester’s Fries, Ruffles Flamin Hot chips, Lays Flamin Hot chips, etc.
I know this is an exciting and maybe a bit nerve-wracking time for your child and your family. We are here to support you and your child as we transition back to school. Please let us know what questions or concerns you may have; we are here to help!

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope you and your family are happy and healthy and that you had time to make wonderful memories together this summer.
Our dedicated teachers have spent many hours this summer attending professional development classes, planning lessons, preparing materials, and creating child-centered learning environments for your child. Our office staff has been on campus throughout the summer registering students, ordering supplies, and preparing the office. Our outstanding custodians have worked hard all summer to move furniture, wax floors, and clean each classroom. We are so thankful for their hard work!
The start of a new school year is always filled with joy and anticipation. I am looking forward to welcoming our new students and families to Grijalva and welcoming back our returning Grizzlies! Grijalva is an amazing place to learn and grow, we are excited to work with you and your family this year. As we plan for our first day of learning, there some important dates and information to be aware of.
• School starts August 4, 2022 at 7:40 AM
• Our school day ends at 1:55 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 12:55 PM on Wednesdays.
• August 2nd -Class lists will be posted in the courtyard at 2:00 PM
• August 3rd from 1:00-2:00 PM, Meet the Teacher, this is a great opportunity to bring in school supplies and have your child get acquainted with their new classroom.
• August 16th 5:30-6:30 PM Open House/Curriculum Night for students in Kinder, 1st, 2nd Grade
• August 17th 5:30-6:30 PM Open House/Curriculum Night for students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade
• Grijalva Students wear uniforms.
Masks and COVID Procedures
Masks are not required but highly encouraged especially for adults and children who have not been vaccinated. We will continue to engage in high cleaning standards, encourage space between students, and remind students of the importance of hand washing and good hygiene.
TUSD Meal Program
ALL students at Grijavla will receive free breakfast and lunch this year! You do not need to fill out a free and reduced meal benefit application. Breakfast is served from 7:20-7:40 AM each morning.
Arrival and Reunion (Dismissal) at the End of the Day
Arrival Procedures
Students can be dropped off in the main parking lot (off Pin Oak) at the sidewalk from the passenger side of the car at 7:20 AM. For your child’s safety, please do not drop them off from the driver’s side of the car or in any other location in the parking lot. Students may also be dropped off along Drexel from the passenger’s side of the car. Please remember U-turns on Drexel are prohibited and violators may be ticketed by TPD.
Students dropped off after 7:40 AM MUST be accompanied by an adult to the office to be signed in.
Reunion Procedures
Please tell your child’s teacher who will be picking your child up during our “Meet the Teacher” event or before school on Thursday August 4th.
• Kindergarten and 1st Grade Students- will be picked up in the loop at Grijalva Park. Please pull your car all the way to the end of the loop near the ramada; an adult will assist your child to your car. For your child’s safety, please remind your child to get in the car from the passenger side.
• 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students- will be picked up in the main parking off Pin Oak. Please pull your car all the way to the end of the loop near the exit gate; an adult will assist your child to your car. For your child’s safety, please remind your child to get in the car from the passenger side. Students in grades 2nd-5th grade, who have a sibling in Kinder or 1st grade, will dismiss from the loop by Grijalva Park with the youngest sibling.
• Pick up on Drexel Road is reserved for Day Car Vans and Busses. Parents must follow one of the above procedures for pick-up depending on your child’s grade level.
• Students who are walking home are expected to leave school as soon as the bell rings and walk directly home.

Nuestro personal de la oficina ha estado en el campus durante todo el verano registrando estudiantes, ordenando suministros y preparando la oficina. Nuestros conserjes sobresalientes han trabajado duro todo el verano para mover muebles, encerar pisos y limpiar cada salón. ¡Estamos muy agradecidos por su arduo trabajo!
El comienzo de un nuevo año escolar siempre está lleno de alegría y anticipación. ¡Espero dar la bienvenida a nuestros nuevos estudiantes y familias a Grijalva y dar la bienvenida a nuestros Grizzlies que regresan! Grijalva es un lugar increíble para aprender y crecer, estamos emocionados de trabajar con usted y su familia este año. Mientras planeamos nuestro primer día de aprendizaje, hay algunas fechas importantes e información a tener en cuenta.

Máscaras y procedimientos COVID
No se requieren mascarillas, pero se recomiendan especialmente para adultos y niños que no han sido vacunados. Continuaremos participando en altos estándares de limpieza, fomentaremos el espacio entre los estudiantes y recordaremos a los estudiantes la importancia del lavado de manos y la buena higiene.
Programa de comidas de TUSD
¡TODOS los estudiantes de Grijalva recibirán desayuno y almuerzo gratis este año! No es necesario que complete una solicitud de beneficios de comidas gratis o de precio reducido. El desayuno se sirve de 7: 20-7: 40 AM cada mañana.
Llegada y reunión (salida) al final del día
Procedimientos de llegada
Se puede dejar a los estudiantes en el estacionamiento principal (en Pin Oak) en la acera desde el lado del pasajero del automóvil a las 7:20 AM. Para la seguridad de su hijo, no lo deje en el lado del conductor del automóvil ni en ningún otro lugar del estacionamiento. También se puede dejar a los estudiantes a lo largo de Drexel desde el lado del pasajero del automóvil. Recuerde que los giros en U en Drexel están prohibidos y los infractores pueden ser multados por TPD. Los estudiantes dejados después de las 7:40 a.m. DEBEN estar acompañados por un adulto a la oficina para registrarse.

• Por favor, dígale al maestro de su hijo quién recogerá a su hijo durante nuestro evento "Conoce al maestro" o antes de la escuela el jueves 4 de agosto.
• Estudiantes de jardín de infantes y 1er grado: serán recogidos en el circuito en Grijalva Park. Lleve su automóvil hasta el final del circuito cerca de la ramada; un adulto ayudará a su hijo a llegar a su automóvil. Para la seguridad de su hijo, recuérdele que se suba al automóvil por el lado del pasajero.
• Estudiantes de 2do, 3er, 4to y 5to grado- serán recogidos en el estacionamiento principal de Pin Oak. Lleve su automóvil hasta el final del circuito cerca de la puerta de salida; un adulto ayudará a su hijo a llegar a su automóvil. Para la seguridad de su hijo, recuérdele que se suba al automóvil por el lado del pasajero. Los estudiantes de 2do a 5to grado, que tengan un hermano en Kinder o 1er grado, saldrán del circuito por Grijalva Park con el hermano menor.
• La recogida en la carretera Drexel está reservada para furgonetas y autobuses diurnos. Los padres deben seguir uno de los procedimientos anteriores para recogerlos según el nivel de grado de su hijo.
• Se espera que los estudiantes que caminan a casa salgan de la escuela tan pronto como suene la campana y caminen directamente a casa.
